Jurisdiction and Mission
The Catholicate of Rome-Ruthenia gives patriarchal form and unity to the ecclesiastical life entrusted to the Roman-Ruthenian Pope. Within that one ministry, diocesan, metropolitan, and patriarchal responsibilities are exercised at distinct levels, each serving the same Apostolic faith and mission.

The historic West and Ruthenian inheritance
The Catholicate’s jurisdiction corresponds broadly to the lands and peoples historically associated with the former Patriarchate of the West, together with the Ruthenian territories associated with the titular Pontifical Kingdom of Ruthenia. Its pastoral life is not confined by modern national borders: it serves those communities, clergy, and faithful who belong to its patriarchal communion wherever they may be found.
In practical terms: those within the United Roman-Ruthenian Church for whom the Roman-Ruthenian Pope is the patriarch belong to the Catholicate of Rome-Ruthenia.
The union of 2023
Ancient inheritances gathered into one Catholicate
The present Catholicate was formed in the ecclesiastical union of 2023 through the merger of the former Anglican Patriarchate of Rome and the Gallo-Russo-Byzantine Catholicate. The union brought their complementary Western and Eastern Apostolic inheritances into the present United Roman-Ruthenian Church and established a single patriarchal jurisdiction under the Roman-Ruthenian Pope.
This union did not erase the traditions received through the constituent bodies. It ordered them within a common ecclesiastical life, preserving the Church’s Latin, Byzantine, Anglican, Old Roman Catholic, and Ruthenian patrimonies in harmony.
